Vegan Cinnamon Vanilla Protein Smoothie

You will think the best part of the Vegan Cinnamon Vanilla Maca Protein Smoothie is that it tastes like a milkshake. If using the Vitamix or Blendtec blender, it will have a nice thick smoothie-consistency and also look like a milkshake.  This is the best protein-packed snack to give your kids while also sneaking in some protein, vitamins and nutrients.  They will stay fuller longer than grazing on fruit snacks, chips or snack cakes.  You can play around with this recipe and replace the cinnamon with whatever add-ins you like.  At your next party, place your Vitamix or Blendtec on a table with fixin’ options  — strawberries, bananas, blueberries, cacao powder, etc. – and create milkshake station!  Your guests will love getting their own custom shakes made.

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Being 40% fiber by weight, chia seeds are one of the best sources of fiber in the world. They can absorb up to 10-12 times their weight in water, expanding in your stomach and helping you to eat fewer calories. Combined with their high protein content, they are an ideal food for weight loss. Chia seeds also contain Omega-3 fatty acids, a hard to find element of the vegan diet. They pack in more Omega-3s than salmon. Additionally, chia seeds are important for bone and heart health, and help combat against type 2 diabetes. Cinnamon helps control blood sugar, stop yeast infections, improves IBS symptoms, slows cancer growth, improves alertness and memory, and can kill athletes foot fungus. Maca root, a member of the radish family grown in the Peruvian mountains, helps relieve PMS symptoms, improves sexual function, levels moods, increases stamina and muscle mass, and helps heal wounds more quickly. The vegan cinnamon vanilla protein smoothie packs a powerful nutritional punch. It includes amino acids, calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, Omega-3s, potassium, phosphorus and protein, zinc, and vitamins B1, B2, B3, C and E.

Almond Milk

Almond Milk is a plant milk produced by soaking almonds and grinding them in water. The almond is a species of tree native to the Middle East and South Asia, mostly we are familiar with almonds as the edible seeds of this tree. Almonds are powerhouses of nutrition, containing monounsaturated fats that lower LDL cholesterol and are protective against cardiovascular disease. Almonds are rich in biotin, and contain large amounts of Vitamin E, Manganese, Copper, Vitamin B2, phosphorus, magnesium, and molybdenum.

Chia Seeds

Salvia hispanica, commonly known as chia, is a species of flowering plant in the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to central and southern Mexico and Guatemala. Chia seeds are excellent sources of fiber, protein, antioxidants, and Omega-3 fatty acids. Chia seeds are high in calcium, manganese, magnesium, and phosphorus. They help with gut motility and digestive health and have use in treating diabetes and stabilizing blood sugar.

Maca Powder

Lepidium meyenii, known commonly as or maca, is an herbaceous biennial plant of the crucifer family native to the high Andes of Peru around Lake Junin. It is grown for its fleshy hypocotyl (a fused hypocotyl and taproot), which is used as a root vegetable, a medicinal herb, and a supposed aphrodisiac. Maca is an adaptogen and a superfood. Maca contains fiber, as well as over 20 amino acids, including 8 essential amino acids, 20 free-form fatty acids (such as lauric, linolenic, palmitic acid, oleic , and steric acid), vitamins B1, B2, C and E and calcium, magnesium, potassium, copper, iron, zinc, manganese, phosphorus, selenium and sulphur. Maca is known for its positive effects on hormonal balance in both women and men.

Vanilla Extract

Vanilla is a flavor derived from orchids of the genus Vanilla. It contains compounds unique to vanilla – vanillic acid and vanillin which have strong anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Traditional cultures have long used it to stimulate the brain and senses.

Stevia

Stevia is a sweetener and sugar substitute extracted from the leaves of the plant species Stevia rebaudiana. Stevia has zero calories, zero carbohydrates, and zero glycemic index – making it a safe sweetener for diabetics. Stevia is also up to 200 times more sweet than sugar, meaning a very small amount is used in recipes.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a spice obtained from the inner bark of several trees from the genus Cinnamomum. Cinnamon contains a range of volatile oils that help with blood sugar control, so is a great food to use in weight management. Cinnamon has strong anti-clotting and anti-microbial activity, and is very high in manganese.
