A little bit about homemade flours

Do you ever go to the store and see the big bag of flour sitting there, and you’re like… do I really need all the flour?  Well, you probably don’t, a lot of time that – flour – will sit around in your kitchen for long periods of time getting old and stale.  Companies stack store bought flours with preservatives in order to have a longer shelf life.

As you know many of the enriched preservatives used by big business is not healthy for us.  The only way to be certain you’re getting fresh and healthy flour is when you make it at home; which is why you need to know and learn about high power blenders.

Grinding your own flour guarantees that you are baking with the highest amount of natural nutrition with no additives. The, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber that are found in the seeds, kernels, and grains are removed during the enriching process so when you buy store bought flours you aren’t always getting what you think you’re getting.

How do I grind grains in my high powered blender?

Grinding fresh grains such as popcorn kernels, which turns into corn meal, is as easy as adding in the ingredients and starting the blender, just make sure your jar or container is completely dry before you begin. Simply add in the desired amount of grains you wish to grind and run the blender on it’s highest speed for around 1 minute.  Let the blender do the work for you, you can run it on a low speed for thicker textures but if you want to make the texture fine, then make sure to run the blender on a high speed.  Make sure the Jar, pitcher, or Container you are using is completely dry of any water or liquids, if there is any dampness or water it could ruin the texture.

Here are examples of grains you are able to grind in your blender:

Rice Grains = Rice Flour

Using anyone of the – high power blenders – featured in this article, you can turn rice into rice-flour after just 1 minute of grinding. Rice flour is a healthy alternative to store bought flours, there are no preservatives or additives, you can also mix your rice with oats, spelt, and wheat berries and make custom homemade flours.

This is a good trick because you can add ingredients into the flour to better the taste and nutritional value.  Similar to how companies enrich their flours with additives and preservatives, you custom build your own flour in a high powered blender.  For a nice fine rice flour texture run your blender on the highest speed for around 1 minute.  If it’s still not fine enough run it longer… The longer you run it the finer it will become.

Granulated Sugar = Powder Sugar

Quick and easy powdered sugar in just 15 to 20 seconds. When you add regular sugar to the dry blender jar or container and run it on it’s highest speed you’ll get a light and fluffy powdered sugar very quickly. If you run the blender to long the powdered sugar can get pretty light, so we recommend only 15 to 20 seconds on a high speed so the sugar can have some weight on it. Great for pancakes and cakes, powdered sugar is easy to make.

Oat Berries-Wheat Berries-Spelt Berries = Oat Flour, Wheat Flour, and Spelt Flour

Using a Vitamix, Blendtec or any of the high powered blender featured in the Blend offs you can turn any type of berry seeds into Wheat Flour, Spelt Flour, or Oat Flour, simply add your spelt-berries, wheat-berries, or oat-berries into the blender jar or container and run the blender on it’s highest speed for around 1 minute or until your desired consistency is reached. You can mix grains together for custom flours.

Flax Seeds = Flax Meal

A great addition to smoothies, grind up your flax seeds into flax meal easily and quickly by running your high speed blender on it’s highest speed, just make sure the jar or container is dry.  You can mix in flax-meal into smoothies and other recipes.  Similar to how you make flours, you can simply run the blender on it’s high speed for a finer textures.

PopCorn = Corn Meal or Corn Flour

Watch as the tough popcorn kernels get broken down into cornmeal in seconds. The longer you run the blender the finer the texture will become, if you run your high powered blendtec or vitamix blender long enough you’ll get corn flour.  Grinding popcorn is the featured Blend-off for this article, you can watch it in the video below so you can see for yourself how quickly these blenders can make your fresh cornmeal.

Note’ You’ll want to run the – blender – on it’s highest speed for 1 minute to get corn meal and for around 3 minutes to get corn flour.

In conclusion,

Blending, juicing, grinding, mixing, chopping, ice cream recipes, along with the versatile abilities of a high power – blender – makes it easier for you to make homemade recipes. If it’s easy you’ll do it, and that’s exactly what a good blender can do. Being able to do everything with just one appliance is absolutely amazing.
