In the journey to find an answer, Harley partnered with‘Salton’ to create the‘Salton’ Harley Pasternak Power Blender. It has the benefits of a high powered blender (and can make a pretty mean smoothie and a hot soup) at a fraction of the cost. With a powerful 2 HP motor and a five-year warranty, the‘Salton’ Harley Pasternak Power Blender is the perfect blend of power and affordability.
Cost of the Harley Pasternak Blender
- Last thing first, why does it cost so much for a blender with a lot of power? The costs range in the design quality, blade structure, and motor and what goes into making it perform so well makes the costs go up. High powered blenders range from $300 to $700 making the Harley-blender an affordable solution to high-speed-blending. High powered blenders don’t break after a year like a regular blender does and guarantee the products with a strong warranty. High powered blenders such as the Blendtec, Vitamix, Omega BL630 cost a minimum of $400, and some models range up to $700.

HP Blender Motor:
- The 2-peak hp motor on the Harley-Blender is strong enough to power through tough/thick blends such as flours, doughs, and heavy juicing recipes. It’s ability to achieve a maximum speed of 30,000 RPMs allows it to cook soup and make fondues from the friction of the blades. The Salton group designed the Harley to compete with other high powered blenders on the market such as the Vitamix blender, which has a similar design to the Salton Harley Pasternak blender, but costs twice as much. In the recent Blendoffs we conducted, the Harley Pasternak Blender was able to compete with other high powered blenders such as Vitamix and Blendtec in all blending categories for Hot Dry Wet and Cold blending, the design of the HP motor was efficient and consistent.
Cons of the Harley Motor:
- The speed range cannot reach as low as the Vitamix blender so you can’t get the same control.
HP Blender Controls
- The Harley-Blender offers a 10 speed dial and pulse feature which is very effective at giving you a lot of control and power over your blends. It’s a similar design to the Vitamix C Series 5200 blender.
Cons to Harley Blender Controls :
- There are no automatic features
HP Blender Size
- The Harley-Pasternak-Power-Blender sits nicely on your kitchen counter and fits under the cabinets. It’s light-weight, yet sturdy, and is slightly shorter than the Vitamix blenders, coming in at a little over 15 inches tall.
Blender Chord Storage
- Similar to the more pricer Vitamix and Omega blenders, the ‘Salton’ – Harley-Pasternak high powered blender offs chord storage which is great when it’s not in use. It looks good on your counter and stores away nicely.
HP Blender Blades
- 8 stainless steel blades, 4 of which have sawtooth edges, and 4 of which are angled, perfectly designed to pulverize ingredients.
Pro:
The wide base of the container allows for easy cleaning as you can easily reach around the blades with a sponge.
HP Blender Container
- The wide base of the Harely-blender helps knock out air pockets of unblended foods that might-have got stuck on the corners. Compared to the Vitamix standard 64oz jar, you’re able to fit more ingredients in the Harley blender down around the base.
Con of the Harley container:
- The wider base makes it harder to blend smaller portions.
HP Performance Test Comparisons
- Once we opened the box we we’re excited to proceed with our Performance Tests. We put the HP Blender up to the challenge by comparing it with the higher priced Vitamix C Series 500 blender, Blendtec Designer Series blender, and Omega BL630 Blender. The HP Blender is slightly more affordable than these other companies and produces close to the same results. Our honest results and opinions from the Blendoffs between these 4 companies are below.
Ice Cream Performance
- We we’re astonished that the HP-Blender by ‘Salton’ won first place for best ice cream taste and texture out-performing the Vitamix, Blendtec, and Omega high powered blenders. The Harley Pasternak blender made a delicious soft serve ice cream in less than a minute, it had no trouble liquifying the thick strong ingredients and large amount of ice we put into the blender container. It was able to win the Blendoff against the Vitamix-Low-Profile Container for the “My Ice Cream is Better Than Yours” Blendoff. The Blendtec blender was a close runner up, and all the ice creams from the blenders in the competition we’re absolutely amazing, but from what we experienced the Harley blender produced a smoother better tasting ice cream than the other high powered blenders in the competition; furthermore, it’s ability to easily pull down the ingredients was impressive.
Watch the Harley Pasternak quickly make an Ice Cream
Our Thoughts,
The Reason it produced a better ice cream (we think)…
- It’s 8 blade design is able to process the ingredients to a finer consistency rather than the bigger 4 inch blades on the Vitamix and Blendtec. Also, the wider base on the Blendtec and Vitamix Wildside jar and Low Profile container might not have been able to pull the ice cream into the blades vs a container such as the HP where it’s not as wide at the base. Maybe the Blendtec Standard Jar and Vitamix standard container with the narrower base might have done a better job.
Our Conclusion,
- Thick recipes such as ice creams can be easily done in the HP Blender. It liquified 4 cups of hard ice with fruits and had no trouble doing it. We didn’t need to use the tamper in our test but if the Ice Cream should get stuck for any reason, the tamper will come in handy, also great for smaller portions.
Juicing Performance
- We love juicing, and this is an important part of a high powered blenders performance. The HP-Blender by ‘Salton’ performed well against the higher tier competitors on the market.
- We did a test comparing the Harley-blender vs the Vitamix vs the Blendtec and vs the Omega BL 630 to see which ones produced the best texture and best taste. Unfortunately, Harley did not win this blendoff but it was able to easily compete and liquify the Dr. Oz Green Juice Recipe into a nice juice in the same amount of time that the Vitamix and Blendtec we’re able too. The texture produced by the Vitamix and Blendtec for juicing was slightly better than the Harley blender, but the HP-Blender was still able to easily pulverize the tough ingredients in the Dr. Oz Green Juice. The consistency the Harley pasternak blender produces was easily drinkable, tasty, and consistent throughout all our blender tests.
Pro:
The HP-blender comes with a stick (Tamper), which you can use during the blend to push ingredients into the blades which makes it great because you don’t have to stop the blender if it’s not pulling down or you have an air pocket.
Our Conclusion,
- ‘Salton’ Harley-Pasternak blender can easily liquify your frozen fruits, whole foods, nuts, seeds, and leafy green vegetables and give you an easily drinkable juice or smoothie which compares to the Vitamix and Blendtec high-tier blenders.
Hot Soup Test
- Next, we performed a test on The HP-Blenders abilities to cook and heat up soup using friction from the blades. In the Soup Blendoff, we noticed that it takes a bit longer to heat up soups in the Harley Blender vs other high powered blenders; in order to get the soup to the same temperature as a Vitamix or Blendtec you’ll need to run the blender almost twice as long. In the soup performance test we conducted, the Harley-blender heated up soup to 115 degrees in a 6 minute duration where in that same amount of time, the Vitamix and Blendtec we’re able to cook the Vegetable Tortilla soup recipe to a whopping 155 degrees, 40 degrees more hot in than the HP Blender was able to, in the same amount of run time.
Con:
This being said, the ingredients we’re easily liquified with the powerful 2-peak HP Motor and, Yes, it did heat up the soup, but you will need to run the Harley blender for a longer period of time to get the soup to a hotter temperature.
Our Conclusion,
- The Vitamix blender takes on average around 6 minutes to make a soup, the Blendtec blender takes on average around 4 minutes to make soup. The Harley Pasternak blender might take a few more minutes to heat up but you are still able to get the same easily drinkable tasty consistency that the higher-tiered blenders offer.
Note:
- When making soups just be aware that you start to kill off the live enzymes in the fruits and vegetables after the temperature reaches 118 degrees. The Harley Blender can reach a temperature of around 165 to 170 if you let the blades keep spinning. You might want to look into making healthy RAW Soups to keep the live enzymes in tack for more nutrition.
Grinding Grains performance.
- A great feature about a high powered blender is it’s ability to mill and grind grains into fresh homemade gluten free flours. Milling and Grinding grains was our next test for the HP high powered blender. We put the Harley-blender to the test by grinding popcorn into corn meal to see if it could break down the tough Kernels, which it did. The Harley Blender was able to mill down 2 cups of thick tough popcorn kernels with no problem. The texture that it produced is similar to a Vitamix or Blendtec and is good for baking!
Con: It will take you longer to achieve the same consistency and for tougher grinding recipes, the Vitamix and Blendtec are a bit stronger for this category.
Our Conclusion,
- The powerful blade design on the Harley-Blender allows it to grind grains with the same jar/blade that it makes juices, smoothies, and ice creams with. You don’t need any additional jars which is nice because Vitamix recommends using a “Special Dry Container” for their dry goods. The textures you get with the Harley for grinding and milling are adequate for baking recipes and now that it passed the grinding test, it’s officially an All-in-One blender.
Note:
- For certain easier grains such as rice or oats you won’t have a problem, but for tougher grains such as soy beans or popcorn, you will need to run the HP Blender for a little bit longer than you would a Vitamix or Blendtec.
Cleaning abilities
- Easy to use and easy to clean, ‘Salton’ did a great job creating the Harley Pasternak Blender with a wider base so you can easily reach around the sharp stainless blades during cleaning. It has a wider base then the standard Vitamix container and standard Blendtec Jar making it easy to put your entire hand down towards the bottom, which is very helpful during cleaning.
- Similar to a Vitamix or Blendtec blender, all you need to do to clean the HP Blender is add water and a dash of dish soap and let it run for about 30 seconds. This will remove most of the gunk from the jar and blades, then you can simply just rinse it out.
Con to HP Blender Cleaning:
- We previously mentioned that the Harley Blender has the 8 blade design including 4 sawtooth edges and 4 angled blades, so be careful when reaching in and around the blades, but since the base is wider you have a little more wiggle room for your hands to reach in and around the blades.
Conclusion:
- The HP is an affordable all-in-one blender that is easy to use and easy to clean, can’t go wrong with that. There is more information on cleaning tips in the information manual that comes with the Harley Pasternak Blender.
Warranty Information:
- The Harley Pasternak Power Blender comes with a 5 Year Limited Warranty, which is equal to that of certain Vitamix models, and is also greater than most high powered blenders in the same category.
Very Important Note “Limited Warranty means that ‘Salton’ will only honor the original receipt of the purchase by the original owner, so don’t lose your receipt.
- ‘Salton’, creators of the Harley Pasternak Blender, claims that the Harley Pasternak Power Blender “shall remain free from defects in material and workman-ship for only five (5) years from the original purchase date,” at which point, they will choose to make repairs, replacements, or issue a partial or full refund.
Con: The Warranty does not cover shipping costs so any repairs to your HP Blender will come from your pocket. This is standard procedure for all blender companies.
Final Thoughts,
- An affordable solution for a high powered blender, the Harley Pasternak Power Blender has proven to be capable of accomplishing the same recipes as the higher tier blenders and out performing most mid-tier ($150 – $250) blenders. It’s solid design is comparable to a Vitamix and it’s price range is far less. The HP Blender ranges around the $200 to $250 price range, and sometimes you can find a online discount or coupon… Such as this one…
