Soy Milk is a plant milk produced by soaking dried soybeans and grinding them in water. Soy is an excellent source of complete protein for vegans and vegetarians. Soy is one of the only plant-based sources of complete protein available. Additionally, soy naturally contains isoflavones, which can lower bad (LDL) cholesterol. There is some evidence that populations who eat high amounts of soy experience lower rates of breast cancer. Soy is also rich in B Vitamins and Manganese.
Cloves are the flower buds of a tree in the family Myrtaceae, Syzygium aromaticum. Clove is a powerful medicinal plant with strong anti-inflammatory effects, it’s very high in manganese. Clove contains significant amounts of eugenol, the subject of many studies proving benefits to health – including in treatment of digestive tract cancers and joint inflammation.
Cardamom refers to several plants of the similar genera Elettaria and Amomum in the ginger family Zingiberaceae. Cardamom is rich in vitamin C and also contains thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, and Vitamin B6. Cardamom is a powerful medicinal plant – used in India to treat teeth and gum infections, digestive disorders, dysentery, constipation, congestion of the lungs, and throat problems. It has also been used as an antidote for snake and scorpion bites.
Ginger or ginger root is the rhizome of the plant Zingiber officinale. In addition to ginger’s amazing warm flavor, it’s a strong anti-inflammtory and a great digestive tonic. Many people find relief of nausea using ginger – including that produced by morning sickness during pregnancy and by motion sickness.
Black tea is a type of tea made from leaves of the shrub Camellia sinensis. Its color is provided by oxidization, making it stronger tasting and higher in caffeine and antioxidants than other varieties of tea. Tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world and is a rich source of polyphenols. Black tea has been shown to reduce some symptoms of heart disease and may help to keep blood cholesterol levels low.
Stevia is a sweetener and sugar substitute extracted from the leaves of the plant species Stevia rebaudiana. Stevia has zero calories, zero carbohydrates, and zero glycemic index – making it a safe sweetener for diabetics. Stevia is also up to 200 times more sweet than sugar, meaning a very small amount is used in recipes.
About the Vegan Chai Tea Recipe
Chai tea is a traditional Indian drink that uses a wonderful spicy profile of Indian spices mixed with black tea. You may use any version of milk in this Vegan Chai Tea recipe – soy, coconut, almond, hemp – even dairy milk – but the version below uses soy milk because of its creamy texture. Vegan Chai Tea is also sweetened with stevia to avoid sugar content – but if you prefer sugar you can use it instead, or if you prefer your chai tea without sweetener you can simply leave it out. This version of Vegan Chai Tea has been adapted for the Vitamix or Blendtec blender, making it faster and easier. A Vitamix or Blendtec blender completely pulverizes the whole spices, heats the milk, and creates a nice fluffy foam.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
Why make the Vegan Chai Tea Recipe?
Sometimes we need a pick-me-up but want to do something for ourselves that’s more healthy than reaching for that quadruple mocha latte. Vegan Chai Tea is a great way to get a stimulating effect that goes above and beyond the caffeine in black tea. The warming and invigorating spices in Vegan Chai Tea work together in synergy to supply healthy energy to the body.
Vegan Chai Tea is very flexible – allowing you to use whatever kind of milk you prefer, and whatever kind of sweetener you prefer (though we suggest soy and stevia for the best taste and consistency). Vegan Chai Tea contains powerful warming, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial spices: ginger, cardamom, and cloves – all of which can be purchased more affordable whole and ground using your Vitamix or Blendtec blender! In fact, the best thing about this recipe is that you can throw in all of the ingredients whole and cold – and in 7 minutes you’ll have hot Vegan Chai Tea! This recipe can be made in larger amounts, it will keep in the refrigerator for 4-5 days. Just place a portion back into the Vitamix or Blendtec blender to warm it again and create some foam.
